Schizophrenia is a chronic debilitating brain disorder that affects about 1% of the population, usually starting in their late teens to early 30's. Symptoms include hearing imaginary voices, thinking others are reading or controlling their thoughts, or thinking others are planning to harm them(paranoid). Schizophrenics may not make sense when they talk, or may be still and silent for long periods of time.
Symptoms may include hallucinations, delusions, confused thought or movement, inability to plan or organize, speak, find pleasure, inattention or memory loss.
The direct causes are unknown. Schizophrenia tends to run in families and is likely to be associated with an imbalance of brain chemicals, but it may have causes in childhood experiences and environment, as well. Imbalances of some nutrients, such as tryptophan, have been linked to this disorder, which is why the first treatment is often a full blood test.
This usually includes antipsychotic medicine and psychiatric treatment involving other people.
Self-help groups are common for schizophrenics and their families, to provide mutual support and encouragement. Following a balanced diet with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, along with a complete vitamin/mineral supplement can help stabilize blood chemicals.
Mental health conditions can be frustrating and painful...sometimes even fatal. We both know there are no guaranteed cures or quick fixes, whether medicine, nutrition, herbs or anything else. Many illnesses are "incurable" from the medical standpoint. Complete healing is possible...including mind, body and spirit...from God.
