It's unlikely someone suffering BPD would be trying to discover this about themselves, so this test is to help you discover if a loved one should seek professional help. The more of the following symptoms you see in a loved one, the greater the need for a professional diagnosis and possible treatment:
BP Disorder has no known causes, but occurs more often in women and among hospitalized psychiatric patients. If, as a child, someone was sexually abused, had disrupted family life or had abandonment issues, they may be more likely to suffer BPD.
Group therapy has been effective in altering some of the behavior. medications can help. Unfortunately, BPD patients typically don't see a problem with themselves, don't follow instructions and don't cooperate with treatment or trust the people who are trying to help.
If someone does suffer from BPD, they're likely to feel they don't need help. You can use BPD to motivate a loved one to get help if they feel you're a major part of their life. If you're a regular part of their love-hate drama, it's possible you're important enough for them to cooperate with treatment. During a time when they're treating you as the best person in the world, remind them of the last time they "hated" you or the last time they hurt themselves. Let them know, because you love them, unless they see a psychiatrist and start getting help, you can't be around them. Any time they stop cooperating with treatment, go back to this routine with them until they continue treatment or until you're certain they won't. Then, you have a painful decision to make.
Mental health conditions can be frustrating and confusing, especially on loved ones. It's difficult to even know we need help, and there are no quick fixes. There is someone who loves you and wants to help...God. If you want God's help with this or any problem, go to Help From God.
