Types Of Periodontal Disease covers the causes, signs, symptoms and treatment, along with self help things you can do to fight this condition.

Types Of Periodontal Disease

Periodontal Disease Signs And Symptoms:

Signs and Symptoms of Gingivitis include bleeding while brushing or flossing, soft red or swollen gums, gum tenderness.  Signs and Symptoms of Periodontitis include loose teeth, pockets in gum between teeth, bad taste or odor in the mouth, pus, changes in bite, changes in bite, toothache with hot, cold or sweet food.  For more detail, see these books on Types of Periodontal Disease.

Types Of Periodontal Disease:

Periodontal Disease has 2 main stages; Gingivitis (the milder stage) and Periodontitis (the severe disease).  Gingivitis is caused by uncontrolled bacteria which inflames gum tissue and forms tartar.  Causes include poor oral hygiene, misaligned teeth, mouth breathing, medications, calcium deficiency, vitamin deficiency, allergies, aging, smoking, diabetes and thyroid problems.  Periodontitis is caused by uncontrolled Gingivitis.  There may be a correlation between Atherosclerosis and Periodontal Disease, though, assigning a cause and effect relationship is so far unsupported.

Periodontal Disease Treatment:

Let's say the earlier the better.  Frequent visits to the dentist can catch early Gingivitis before serious damage occurs.  Don't think the brand of toothpaste makes any difference.  Primary treatment is encouragement and training on flossing/brushing techniques and equipment.  Once early Periodontitis develops, the dentist visits should be increased to 3-4 times per year with strong emphasis on oral hygiene.  More serious Periodontitis may require surgery or removal of teeth, possibly all teeth.

Periodontal Disease Self Help:

Perhaps the most productive things you can do to prevent or control Gingivitis is regular brushing and flossing.  Electronic toothbrushes and gum massagers are very helpful, along with the water jet tools to get where brushing and floss can't. You can also eat a high calcium diet with foods that require chewing to strengthen your teeth and gums.  To help fight the causes of this disease you can supplement your diet with natural Multi-Vitamins and Multi-Minerals, along with extra doses of the following:

Antioxidants; including Beta Carotene, Flavonoids, Vitamin A, Zinc, Vitamin E, Vitamin C and CoQ10.
Lipoic Acid; at least 200 mg divided into 2-3 doses per day.
Organic Germanium; 300-450mg divided into 3 doses a day.
Fiber; 12-15 grams extra from vegetable sources or supplements.
Omega 3; 3 per day, 1 at beginning of each meal.
Lecithin; taken with the Omega 3.
Selenium
Vitamin B Complex
Garlic; 3 cloves per day.
Drinking Clean Water; 2-3 quarts daily.
Calcium
Magnesium
