The Asthma Signs And Symptoms page covers the causes, signs, symptoms and treatment, along with what self help information about this disease.

Asthma Signs And Symptoms

Asthma Signs And Symptoms:

Difficulty breathing is usually the first sign.  Other signs and symptoms include a persistent, dry, unproductive cough and wheezing is common.  When the cough produces stuff (sputum), it's usually thick, clear, milky or yellow.  With Asthma, it's more difficult to exhale than to inhale.  Tightness in chest.  Obvious, conscious use of breathing muscles.  To learn more about this deadly disease, see these top-selling books on Asthma.

Asthma Causes:

Asthma Types include "Allergic" (due to allergies) or "Infection" (due to respiratory infections).  Since both types share most symptoms and treatment, we'll cover then together.  Causes can include heredity, allergies (pollen, dust, perfumes, smoke, even foods), exercise, stress or fatigue.  The severity of Asthma attacks can range from slight difficulty breathing to death.

Asthma Treatment:

Infection Asthma treatment starts with discovering and treating the underlying infection...usually with antibiotics.  All other asthma treatments are the same, regardless of the type.  Doctors usually treat Asthma attacks with steroids and other drugs that relieve the blockage.  Then, we're given an emergency inhaler for urgent breathing needs (usually Albuterol).  If this is needed more than a couple times a week, any one of several different Asthma drugs are available to maintain normal breathing so the Albuterol isn't needed as much.

Asthma Self Help:

Learn to avoid the foods and other things that trigger attacks.  This could include filtering the air in the home.

Note:  I have a whole house high efficiency (HEPA) filtering system on my home air system.  For about $ 500 initially and about $ 50 per year in replacement filters, it helps with my Asthma and Marsha's allergies.  Glen

Other things that can greatly help include losing excess weight, drinking 2-3 quarts of water daily and regular aerobic exercise.  To help fight the causes of this disease you can Supplement your diet with natural Multi-Vitamins and Multi-Minerals, along with extra doses of the following:
